Justin Winkel: The Shared Surface
Wall installation
Mixed media on Paper
80 x 120in
Black Artist Frame
The Shared Surface is a large-scale participatory work conceived and led by artist Justin Winkel over the course of a 6-week public process. Rooted in collaboration and human connection, the project invited visitors to move beyond observation and step directly into the act of creation. Within a framework carefully shaped by Winkel’s vision, each participant contributed their own gestures, marks, and presence to an evolving composition that gradually transformed into a unified collective work.
During the course of creation, more than fifty participants, ranging in age from early childhood to adulthood, contributed marks, gestures, and movements across the surface. What began as an open invitation became a sustained study of presence and collective expression, held together through the artist’s ongoing orchestration of space, balance, and form.
