Justin Winkel: The Foot of a Palm

Inspired by photographs taken of Ponytail Palm Trees in Miami. The trunk of this tree has a flared, enlarged base (a globose caudex) suggestive of an elephants foot. The swollen trunk serves to store water, allowing the plant to survive extended droughts.
