Paris Lee Campbell

BIO:

Paris is an abstract expressionist painter whose work invites viewers into a vibrant world where energy and motion take center stage. Her art has been likened to a whitewater rafting adventure — a thrilling blend of rapids and calm, drifting pools. Her love of color and paint shines through techniques like layering, scumbling, splashing, dripping, and scraping, creating a rich variety of effects. Paris embraces the element of surprise, delighting in accidental marks, spontaneous movement, and the imagined relationships between colors and shapes. Through this lively world, viewers are invited into a sense of freedom and joyful exploration.

After studying at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Paris discovered new passions — spending evenings in the pottery studio, building stage sets for the Peabody Conservatory, and teaching art to underprivileged children in Baltimore. After graduation, she and her husband, a fellow art student, moved to Clearwater, Florida, where they taught at the Florida Gulf Coast Art Center and later opened Saloon of Arts, a gallery and studio offering classes in painting, sculpture, pottery, and basket weaving.

Eventually, the lure of juried art shows called them to travel the East Coast, exhibiting pottery and sculpture from Boca Raton to Ann Arbor and earning awards including Best in Show. After a decade on the road, Paris and Bruce returned to Baltimore to raise their four children while continuing their art and teaching work.
