January Newsletter: New Year, New Events

I want to start by saying Happy New Year! Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday season. As we enter a new year we are excited about what’s in store for the gallery in 2026. We are starting off the year with a new exhibition and we hope you can join us in experiencing this exhibition inspired by History!

ARVAY ADAMS | ON THIS DAY

January 31 - February 28 2026

Opening Reception

Saturday January 31 from 3-6pm

FREE & OPEN TO PUBLIC

On This Day features Arvay Adams’ transformation of pivotal historical moments into compelling works of art that capture the emotional weight of events significant not only to Baltimore, but to the nation.

Anchoring the exhibition is a commissioned painting inspired by the 1955 Read’s Drug Store sit-in, a defining act of protest in Baltimore’s civil rights history. The sit-in served as a catalyst for similar demonstrations across the city and throughout the country, marking a critical turning point in the fight for desegregation. Adams’ interpretation of this moment reflects his deep engagement with Black history and its lasting resonance in contemporary life.

In addition to the commissioned work, Adams presents a series of paintings that document other moments in history.

This exhibition was made possible by Gallagher LLP, a Baltimore based Law Firm, who commissioned Adams to create a groundbreaking painting for their newly renovated office. Their support helped bring this important body of work to the public, fostering dialogue around history, justice, and remembrance.

NEW WORKS

In addition to Adams’ exhibition, which will take place in the back half of the gallery, our quarterly refresh in the front half will introduce new works by Ricardo Roig, Tracey Halvorsen, Federico Gauna, and Justin Winkel. I’m currently receiving the work and mapping out the new layout, so I’m keeping the details under wraps for now. No spoilers! You’ll have to stop by the gallery in person or follow along in next month’s newsletter to see what’s new.

What to Watch

THE WARHOL DIARIES

This series gave me a deeper appreciation for Warhol’s artistry and the insight behind his work. It’s a great watch. Artists today can thank Warhol for introducing the commercial element into artistic practice.

From executive producer Ryan Murphy and director Andrew Rossi, this breathtakingly expansive, six-part portrait of a legend chronicles the remarkable life of Andy Warhol from the intimate vantage point offered by the artist’s own posthumously published diaries.
